Making Work from Home Comfortable
Rooms that flex with everyone's evolving needs of working from home.
by Liz Donley August 3, 2022As we spent more time than ever in our homes during the pandemic we quickly realized that the open concept plans that have been popular over the last decade were not the most comfortable spaces for the whole family to be working and doing schooling in. When our Old World Design Team was thinking through the layout for our Columbus Model Home they wanted to maintain the feeling of an open plan but create dedicated working and relaxing spaces that could flex in their use throughout the day.
Study Hall
The Study Hall is a private space beside the kitchen that is connected to the kitchen by a wall of windows. It is illuminated throughout the day by second story windows that light the stair well and cast an ambient light through the kitchen. This is the perfect space for kids to do school work while you are in the kitchen or it can flex into a mini mom's office.
The Lounge
Just as important as having spaces to work in is having spaces where you can unwind at the end of the day. We designed the Lounge to be an intimate retreat from the chaos of everyday living. The step-down design clearly defines the room and offers coziness to the space making it perfect for listening to music, enjoying an end of the day cocktail, or curling up with your favorite book.
Zoom Room
Whether we like it or not virtual meetings are here to stay. However, doing them on the kitchen island or hiding in your bedroom is not the best location to make them enjoyable. The Zoom Room is our solution to create a small private space that is aesthetically pleasing and lit with indirect natural lighting to make you look the best on your Zoom calls. A large interior black metal window not only brings in natural light but it connects the space to the main living area of the house so you can still keep an eye on the rest of the house while you are on your call.
